False alarm: Those weren’t gunshots at Town East Mall in Mesquite on Saturday, police say

The sound of gunshots reported at Town East Mall in Mesquite on Saturday night was a false alarm, according to police.
Officers determined the sound came from people throwing chairs at the mall’s food court, not from a shooting. At least one chair was thrown from the upper-level food court to the mall’s lower level, police said in a news release.
No injuries were reported and there was no evidence of a shooting, according to police.

Mesquite police were notified around 7:27 p.m. Saturday of sounds of gunfire at the mall. After reviewing mall surveillance video, they determined a disturbance in the food court resulted in people throwing chairs, police said.
The mall remained open, but police said several stores chose to close early.
Police are investigating the incident and those involved in the disturbance may face charges, according to the release.
