Description

Rare original antique engraving print from an 1870s illustrated journal.
It depicts a rare view of competitive rat hunting, in which a terrier is dropped into a pit with rats. The dog that kills the most rates within a certain period of time is declared the winner. It was most certainly a betting sport. The dog here is a miniature pinscher doing what it was bred to do. Ratting was a valuable skill in those days for both city and country dogs.
The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 10 x 14.25 inches (25.5 x 36 cm). The picture fills about half of it, measuring about 6 x 7.75 inches, with a caption below it.
The page is in excellent condition for its age.
There is text/photos on the back of the print.
See scan for an accurate view of the condition.
This is GENUINE antique/vintage item. It is not a modern reproduction.
