A little bit of history. The track use to face East and West during the early horse racing days 1800's. It was then rotated to face North and South in early 1900's for horse and auto racing. Of course they did not race on the same days except if the auto race would've been rained out, then it might have been moved to a day that the horses also raced on.  And yes, it was dirt back then.
In 1952 it was determined to pave the track by 1954. A half mile and quarter mile dirt track was also created at this time, which are no longer in existence. Dust from the track and neighbors put an end to that.
It's somewhat surprising that this track still exist, since it's owned by the state of Wisconsin which is truly incapable of running...............my opinion. The expensive scoring tower was sold at auction and a bush league number thingy has taken it's place.
